Handling Critique
Janice Gensemer and Tucker in action at their first USDAA
trial. So, what's good about this picture?
Janice is
giving Tucker the command for the next obstacle as he is in the air. The timing on
this command couldn't be better.
Janice is
using a fully flat hand to signal with. Even though Tucker's head is in front of
her, his peripheral vision will catch Janice's signal.
Janice's arm
is extended nicely giving the signal. Tucker will be in no doubt as to where he is
to go next. I can tell by her signal and body language that Tucker should next be
moving away from her, towards the camera.
Good handling, Janice! Is this photo from the Grand
Prix, where you and Tucker qualified?
Jenny Cobb and Spike are seen at the National Poodle Specialty.
Jenny is also
giving the signal for the next obstacle while Spike is in the air.
Her head is
turned enough so that even though she is in front of Spike, she still has her eye on him
as well as where she wants him to go next.
She's turning
her shoulder to her right, and bringing her hand signal that way, so we can assume that
the next obstacle curves slightly to the right.
Jenny and Spike also qualified in this class, earning
Spike's 2nd NAJ leg. Good handling, Jenny!
